In pictures: T pylons

In 2011, National Grid co-organised an international design competition to find a new 21st century design for the high voltage overhead line towers spanning the UK. The winner was the T-pylon, designed by Danish architects and engineering company Bystrup. Since then, National Grid has worked with engineers and partners to turn the design into a reality, with six of them now standing near the company’s Eakring training academy in Nottinghamshire. In November, the project won the Energy Excellence category at the 2015 Energy Institute Awards. Here’s the story of its development in pictures….
