The key successes in Gas Distribution (GD) are laid out in the business’s annual RIIO performance report for stakeholders.
“Stakeholders are keen to hear what we’re doing and this year we’ve transformed our approach to make it easier to get to grips with how we’re performing and the service we provide”
Richard Court, Head of RIIO Delivery.
These successes include its continued provision of a safe and reliable service, and an overall improvement in its level of customer service.
This year’s report makes it easier than ever for consumers and stakeholders to see how the GD business is performing. Following feedback from stakeholders, a short animated film and bite size booklet containing customer bill infographics now sit alongside a more detailed performance summary.
RIIO, which went live in 2013, is Ofgem’s performance and pricing framework. Heavily led by the needs of stakeholders, it incentivises network companies to make progress in areas such as safety, customer service, reliability, environmental sustainability and safeguarding future customers by helping shape the future gas industry.
Successes showcased in this year’s report are in the areas of safety, reliability and environment. The business continues to maintain its level of customer service and is committed to finding new ways to improve.
Future of gas
The report also highlights how the business is leading the debate for decarbonising the energy industry – and promoting the benefits of gas to help achieve this.
It’s putting this passion into action with the connection of several biomethane plants to its network. This year, it connected the first high-pressure gas filling station for HGVs in Leyland in Lancashire, so vehicles up and down the UK can now be powered on clean gas.
Richard Court, Head of RIIO Delivery said: “Stakeholders are keen to hear what we’re doing and this year we’ve transformed our approach to make it easier to get to grips with how we’re performing and the service we provide.
“By sharing our performance and showing how we’re innovating and safeguarding future customers, we’re letting stakeholders know that we not only have a great asset in gas, but we’re also investing in it to support clean and renewable ways of supplying gas in future.”
