Prestigious BiTC award for National Grid
Prestigious BiTC award for National Grid

National Grid has been named UK Responsible Business of the Year 2014 - Business in the community’s top award, in the presence of HRH the Prince of Wales, Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, and Prince Harry.

Business in the Community stands for responsible business and the award recognises the approach National Grid takes to its role.

I’d like to personally thank all of our employees for making a positive impact, getting involved with the things that really matter to us and to society, and doing the right things in the right way.

Steve Holliday, National Grid Chief Executive Officer

This award recognises the efforts we’ve been making to embed sustainable business practices and support and work with our communities and the positive difference we make to society and the environment.

The judging panel commended National Grid for developing a ‘connected’ vision as a responsible business. A key part of that vision is the investment we are making in developing talent within the next generation.

Our CR strategy, called Making Connections, has also given focus and structure around all the things we do, and this was a critical component to winning the award. It connects our business focus with what is good for society – creating value both on the bottom line but also for the communities we serve.

Speaking about the award, National Grid’s Chief Executive Officer Steve Holliday said: “I’d like to personally thank all of our employees for making a positive impact, getting involved with the things that really matter to us and to society, and doing the right things in the right way. Although BITC is a UK body, the award was given to the entire company and recognises the good work we’re doing across our entire service area.”

The BITC awards serve to identify, celebrate, and showcase businesses that are demonstrating a positive and sustainable impact on society.

Winning the award is testament to making a positive impact, getting involved with the things that really matter to us and to society, and doing the right things in the right way.
