National Grid’s Gas Distribution Innovation team cited as “game changer” in Utility Week magazine

The Tier One Replacement System project described as a “game changer” for the utility market.

This project will reduce our costs and will also contribute to our ambition to reduce excavations and interruptions of gas by 50% by 2017.

The Tier One Replacement System (TORS) project being developed by the Innovation team in our Gas Distribution business was described as a “game changer” for the utility market by Jane Gray, Editor at Utility Week magazine, the leading magazine for news and debate in the energy industry.

Darren White, Innovation Manager and Wez Little from our technology partner Synthotech were interviewed about the Network Innovation Allowance funded Tier One Replacement System, a pioneering robotic technique to reduce excavations on a 100 metre stretch of metal pipe from 22 to 2.

This project will not only decrease inconvenience to the public, reduce our costs but it will also contribute to our ambition to reduce excavations and interruptions of gas by 50% by 2017.
