National Grid has today been accredited by The Living Wage Foundation (LWF).

The accreditation follows our pledge to make sure that all who work on our behalf will be paid at least the Living Wage, which is higher than the official National Minimum Wage. The hourly minimum wage is £6.50; the Living Wage is £7.85 or £9.15 if in Central London.
This will not affect our own employees because we already pay our directly employed people above the Living Wage. We are also taking the Living Wage one step further than the accreditation requires because apprentices, interns and graduates at National Grid will be paid the Living Wage from September. We can also confirm that we do not have any employees on any form of non-guaranteed hours contracts.
Because of our scale and size we now have an opportunity, through the Living Wage, to play a leading role in the UK energy sector and influence our vast and complex supply chain to make sure that anyone who works on our behalf is appropriately rewarded. In particular, this is defined as contractors aged over 18 who work on our sites for two or more hours in any given day in the week, for eight or more consecutive weeks.
This means we can now mandate the Living Wage for all new contracts. We can also ask for voluntary participation from suppliers with existing contracts.
